ABOUT

Bespoke clothier Kamaal Kadri began his career at the age of 16, apprenticing for 5 years with his father, who owned YAKS Menswear – a bespoke menswear shop in Bombay, India.

He then interned with Mr. Merchant, a master pattern maker at Kilgour, Stanbury and French, the most well-known and respected tailor on Savile Row in London. Always striving to improve, Kamaal realized he needed to combine his technical skills with contemporary design to bring a sense of flair to the classic British menswear tailoring which appeared very stiff and structured at that time.

In 2000 he moved to New York to study at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT) in the Menswear Design Program. While at school, he apprenticed at Kenneth Cole New York that was followed by a full-time position in design and development, on his graduation from FIT. After working for 5 years at Kenneth Cole, he moved to work for Michael Kors in technical design. His combined experience with Kenneth Cole and Michael Kors enabled him to understand the balance between craftsmanship, style and commercialization and gave him the confidence to branch out on his own.

Kamaal Kadri established his own label in 2008 offering traditional clothing and expertise in the finest Bespoke craftsmanship for custom suits and shirts. His source of inspiration comes from working with his father at an early age, combining traditional craftsmanship at his time in London, and the contemporary designs from his experience at leading US brands

When I put a Kamaal Kadri bespoke suit on, I feel like I’m changing into my superhero costume. I finally understand what is meant when people say that good fashion is an extension of the wearer’s confidence. This is the kind of purchase that could change a man’s life. My entire psychology changes: I feel like strutting.

- Josh Rothkopf
Senior Film Writer, Time Out New York

I was fascinated by Kamaal’s almost scientific nature, his attention to detail and his scrutiny. Each time I pull out my off-the-rack suits to wear, I’m always frustrated. One well made suit is worth more than the three I have that weren’t right.

- Adam Fulrath, TONY design director

What makes Kamaal different is that he takes the time to listen, and to really understand how you want to look and feel in a suit… Having a tailor who not only makes sure that they really understand what you want, but who is also willing to get a sense of your personal style, is really essential.
